In this course, we will expand, refine, and quantify our understanding of how atoms interact to form molecules. We will discuss the rate and direction of chemical reactions, the application of equilibrium to acid-base chemistry and solubility, expand our understanding of the role of energy in chemical reactions, and refine our understanding of redox chemistry using electrochemistry. As the second course in the two-semester general chemistry sequence, this course is designed to provide a solid foundation in chemical thinking for both chemistry majors and those pursuing a variety of other fields, including medicine, engineering, and the other sciences. Laboratory work is required. Prerequisite: C- or better in CHE 131.
